Beaverhead Work Center: Geronimo Trail Scenic Byway, New Mexico

The BEAVERHEAD WORK CENTER, part of the Black Range Ranger District of the Gila National Forest, is situated in a beautiful mountain valley spread out in lush grassland. This is old ranching country, and cattle still graze the area. Watch for deer, elk, and other wildlife. A Forest Service Station is staffed part-time with fire and trail crew personnel. A Visitor's Center (with an outdoor pay phone and restrooms) is also staffed part time. When they're open, forest service maps and other information may be obtained. Potable water is available from an outside faucet at any time, but there is no vehicle service or gasoline available here. Lodging, outfitting, and wilderness excursions are available locally with advanced reservation.
	Please note that there is no gasoline available on the Geronimo Trail Scenic Byway west of Truth or Consequences / Williamsburg and Elephant Butte. This is the majority of the Trail, which runs through some very remote countryside. Fill your tank before you leave! Gasoline is available on Side Trip 5; or, if you choose to follow the Alternate Loop, gas is available at Silver City. Please also note that bridges between Caballo and Hillsboro bear twelve-foot, six-inch height restrictions; and the Forest Service advises not only that trailers over twenty feet are unsafe on Forest Development Road 150, but that low-clearance / non-four-wheel-drive vehicles travel that section of the Trail at their own risk.
